The park’s design was created by Melbourne based skatepark specialist, Convic Design, and includes many ideas generated by youth user groups as part of the community consultation process.
The site comprises of 2066m2 of hardstand area; coloured concrete pavement, 480m2 low planting, 160lm of pedestrian and shared pathways, seating, shade structures, basketball area, stage area, bin enclosures and drinking fountains, etc.
Essentially the space is designed to accommodate skateboarding and freestyle BMX riding as well as encouraging other young people to participate in adjacent and compatible recreation.
Funding for the project is allocated as part of the Federal Government’s Economic Stimulus Plan.
Manteena’s Project Manager, Frank Caridi, said he is excited about the challenge of delivering the Youth Plaza by the end of September and remains confident that the project, like all other Manteena projects, will be delivered safely and to the high degree of quality that is expected by our clients.
The project is due for completion by the end of September 2009.
