Staff from Manteena's Wollongong Branch were present for the official opening of the Helensburgh Commuter Car Park by the Premier of NSW, Mr Nathan Rees; Minister for Transport & the Illawarra, Mr David Campbell; and Member for Heathcote, Mr Paul McLeay, on 25 September 2009.
Consisting of 70 car spaces, the car park was built by Manteena over a 14 week construction period.
The car park is approximately 2500m2 in area, with soft landscaping around its perimeter, security fencing, lighting and CCTV cameras connected back to the train station, disabled path with stainless steel balustrades and disabled parking.

Upon opening the carpark Mr Rees said, “This is a great project for Helensburgh locals, and will make the daily commute to work much easier.
“I’m confident locals will feel the benefits quickly, as they can access the station with greater ease and can expect to find a parking space near the station more quickly.
“I want to congratulate the local community and their MP, Paul McLeay – this is a real win for Helensburgh.”
Some aspects of the project provided a real challenge for the team, such as the safe and legal removal of about 2000T of contaminated soil and asbestos material from site and working under 33kV high voltage wires.
Manteena’s Project Manager Joe Cremona added, “Safety is a number one priority for everyone on our work sites and it is pleasing to note that no loss time injuries were recorded throughout the duration of this project.”
The Helensburgh Commuter Car Park is the first of a series of some 13 car parks to be let by TIDC at various train stations around New South Wales.
