Manteena to build new Lao Embassy in O’Malley |
The Lao People’s Democratic Republic has appointed Manteena Commercial to build Stage 1 of its new Embassy development in O’Malley. Lao Ambassador, His Excellency Mr Sisavath Inphachanh & Manteena CEO, Mr Simon Butt, signed the contract to officially mark the commencement of the project.
Stage 1 will feature a new Chancery, Ambassador’s Residence and 10 bedroom self-contained units for staff and guest accommodation.
The buildings’ design is reflective of Lao architectural including use of materials such as terracotta roofs with “flyaway” gables that feature a contemporary interpretation of a traditional Naga. There is a mixture of external finishes featuring shot-blasted blockwork and a combination of face brickwork, stone and wood panelling.
Internally the buildings are more contemporary, suited to modern working and living environments. The buildings are linked via garden paths that traverse steep terraces that will be planted with mature trees and shrubs.
Manteena Director & Project Director, Rod Mitton, explained, “Manteena’s involvement in this project started 12 months ago when we joined the team as part of the Early Contractor Involvement phase”.
“We’ve worked closely with the Lao Embassy & design team to finalise the design and confirm building costs; we’re now eager to commence construction,” Rod said.
“The final design is stunning. I think His Excellency Mr Sisavath Inphachanh, his staff and visitors can be very excited for what we are about to build.”
Manteena has a long and successful history of working on diplomatic projects. The High Commission of Samoa project was recently awarded a National MBA Award for “Best commercial/industrial building under $5M”, in 2018.
