National Excellence in Building and Construction Award 2010
CSIRO Entomology was established in 1928 and is currently the largest single organisation in Australia conducting research into insects, related arthropods and terrestrial invertebrates.
The Division is currently located at the CSIRO Black Mountain Campus within the heritage listed Building 101 that was originally constructed in 1929.
The construction of CSIRO Entomology Bioscience Laboratory (Building 179) is to provide a more suitable and contemporary research facility to accommodate to changes and requirements in the scientific community.
The new Bioscience Laboratory building provides international standard accommodation to meet CSIRO Entomology research and will enable the integration of laboratories, support facilities and equipment in a secure PC2 certified area, consistent with requirements imposed by OGTR for bio-containment work.
The new facility provides research laboratory accommodation for up to 55 scientific staff, replacing the need for the existing laboratories.
Building 179 comprises of a two storey building, with plant room on the roof and has an approximate 2,313m² gross floor area.
